Our story

Otanguru Farms are situated on the shores of the Matarangi Harbour in the beautiful Coromandel.

Our family has been involved with farming for many generations, suppling food for not only New Zealanders but the rest of the world.

In recent times we have been breeders and finishers of prime Angus cattle, however in 2017 the newest generation of the family did their homework and came to the conclusion that we had an ideal location for the growing of a number of crops and in particular avocados.

At Otanguru Farms we believe in Sustainable Agriculture with our philosophy being, that “less is more “to ensure the health of our environment and the international reputation of New Zealand’s horticultural and agricultural products.

Soil health is a priority which we manage by increasing the organic matter in our soils by heavily composting and mulching all our trees, every year. In addition to this we have integrated innovative techniques to control weeds and pests while encouraging beneficials.

We also have planted thousands of natives in particular, Manuka and Rewarewa to encourage bees and to add to the overall beauty of the orchard.

We leave our fruit on the tree until they naturally ripen then they are picked and dispatched directly to our customers.

We supply directly to restaurants, businesses and the domestic market.

We believe our avocados reflect our commitment to quality we are sure that you will agree when you try them.
